Reverse side bears evidence of newsroom handling (blank verso with surface wear, consistent with other Inquirer editorial art).

Description & Context:
This cartoon depicts Pennsylvania gubernatorial politics in 1942. Republican leader William S. Colegrove is shown telling Democratic candidate Clair Ross to “take a walk” while Ross sits astride a stubborn donkey. The imagery satirizes party infighting and the struggle for voter confidence in wartime Pennsylvania.

Emidio Angelo, the Inquirer’s principal editorial cartoonist from 1937 to 1954, frequently skewered state and national politics while also addressing wartime issues. This piece was published on September 16, 1942, and documented in the newspaper’s “Strictly Politics” section.

Condition:
Front: Bold, dark inks with strong contrast; minor surface wear.
Verso: Heavy toning, water staining, and visible blue-pencil construction sketches.
