Description
It’s October so spooky season is in effect. So I figured it’s time to post this one. This issue of what if from 96 always stuck with me. A true horror story in the X-men world.. Sabertooth finally does it gets in and kills a bunch of X-men with only Jubilee left .. it’s a classic game of cat and mouse horror style in the X-mansion. Frank Teran was absolutely perfect for this story his abstract off the wall style fit the horror feel perfectly. I was absolutely floored when I found out Frank still had it (Thanks Dukie!) and I made a deal for it asap. Luckily Frank is in the same state as me so I was able to meet up to pick it up. And that was needed because this piece of art is far from traditional… I’ll give you Franks own description of his process…

“Interms of the description, I'd reitterate and describe it as hardcore mixed media, rather than traditional...it's very utilitarian, and cobbled together, I guess a bit Dave Mckean-ish in terms of production methodolody for this one, to make the cover image as gritty as it was...when examining it...the section with Sabretooth's face in the background is a photocopy (probably enlarged), but with extensive detailing and drawing done over it with white out pen and white ink spatter. Jubilee's face/head is enlarged and taped down superfically. Thankfully, Marvel editorial never gave me shit about it. Hah” Frank Teran

Whatever process he has… he’s a genius and I couldn’t be happier for him have it!

I love Teran's splattered gritty style from this period. Nice pick up!

Teran has never had the prettiest artwork.  He works to reveal the underlying story that is more raw and unfiltered.  A mixed bag of methods is used by Teran, all done in service to the story.

Awesome cover piece with X-Horror vibes! The scratchy/splattery white paints and moody lighting is very unique. Even with the unique media and process to put together but it still fits on a single art board and has a highly finished feel. Very cool addition, congrats!

Such a fantastic cover piece, truly horrific in nature.   The cover, for me, is even more outstanding as B+W.  Cheers!

I remember this one distinctly.  What a perfect style for a Creed story.  Love it.  Congrats, man!
