9-1/8x12" display board has 5-5/8x5.75" thin artboard affixed w/clear plastic corner mounts. Artboard features pen and ink original art w/image within 3" dia. circle. Art depicts one of the Smitty characters subset (who in fact had his own topper strip that ran concurrently w/that of his older brother Smitty's strip) w/hand-lettered "Herby" name at left and "Copr. 1945 Famous Artists Syn." pasted stat along bottom. This stat is aged and has some minor glue staining as applied, w/tiny spot of staining at upper left, but art remains clean and Exc. Back of display includes separate 5.75" square sheet of onionskin paper w/red/fleshtone colors which, when placed over the bw art, provides the colors for the finished button. Margins of this sheet are mounted w/.25" wide strips of double-sided tape to acetate sheet that can be removed from back and placed over art. Paper has some thin ripple lines. Unique and historic button art. Comes w/example of the pin in custom case for display. From the archives of premium creators Sam & Gordon Gold.
