Hanneke still thinks Harlan is a scholar, not a vampire hunter, which proves awkward when she starts asking follow-up questions about his previous lies:
“Hey, slow down! I certainly didn't come here to throw myself into your arms!”
“No? I was kind of hoping you would, to be honest…”
“Not this time. If you want me, you'll have to work for it. The trouble is, you might not want me.”
“Do you know what your problem is, Detective First Class? You're too insecure… for the stunning girl you are!”
“First you insult me, then you compliment me. What kind of tactic is that? Maybe it's better if I go sleep in a hotel.”
“No, no hotel, Hanneke. At least for tonight you'll sleep at my place. There's a small room above the bookstore. Come on.”
“Uhm! Under the same roof. But not in the same bed. Let that be perfectly clear.”
“Perfectly clear!”
But hours later, it's not so clear:
“…It's really too cold to sleep alone here in Prague.”
“No doubt.”
“But don't think you're dealing with an easy girl… or a naive one either!”
“I would never think that of you, Detective First Class.”
“But I really don't know what to think of you, Mister Man of Mystery. When will you finish your legendary book on enigmatic and unsolved cases? Will you show me how far you've gotten?”
“Mmm… my notes are in disarray.”
Harlan seems more flustered by Hanneke than by any monster he's ever faced. At least he carries her luggage. The upper right panel shows the pet hamster which Harlan inherited from Jan Obrasek, the previous owner of the bookstore.
