Description

Kurjak is still being tortured by witches inside Sinistrari's magic painting. He recalls a conversation with Caleb Lost:

“To think that angels, demons, and such always seemed like utter nonsense to me… That was before I met you and Nikolaus.”

“Understandable. Have you changed your mind in the meantime?”

“Do you really want to know the truth, blondie? I still think the same way.”

“Ha ha ha!”

“It's nice to hear you laugh, especially since it rarely happens. But considering I'm fighting for you, why don't you sit down and tell me the truth? Caleb? Hey, I'm talking to you!” (As Caleb fades away, Kurjak remembers his true circumstances.) “Caleb! Aaah! Hell exists! My own personal Hell. But I can't be the only damned soul in this filthy place. Can anyone hear me? What circle of hell am I in? Is there any truth to Dante's Inferno? Satan! Beelzebub! Answer!”

(Lady Druj and Sonderling are in the painting as well. They notice...) “Sonderling, an intruder!”

“Here?”

“In the art gallery. I'll go check.”

This page begins an extended sequence of pages set in the art gallery. Some of the paintings were repeatedly rendered in ink by the artist. Others were rendered once in high detail, and then digitally inserted at skewed perspectives whenever they appeared on the walls. As a result, the next several pages exist in two forms: The original art (with the canvases blank, and without word balloons) and digitally modified printouts (with the paintings on the canvases, and the word balloons attached).

The printouts are on smoother, thinner paper than the original art, with more irregular edges suggesting cutting at home. Throughout this section of the story, you can see the published versions (the digitally altered ones) in the additional images of each page set.

Furthermore, this sequence heavily features Lady Druj stalking about, completely nude as usual. This was apparently a bit much even for Italian readers, so Cropera added extra hair digitally to the published pages to cover her a little more. For instance, the penultimate panel shows her erect nipple in profile, but for the published art (see additional images), this was obscured.

Okay, so maybe I WILL repeat myself from time to time! I'm with you, Robert, this guy may be my favourite of all the Dampyr artists you've got represented in your collection. Beautiful stuff going on all over the place!

It's also interesting to compare the before/after digital elements, as in the last panel. Not bad for compositing in 2008. It's not intrusive.

Interesting editorial/post production alterations - cool to see the actual differences and compare and contrast! However for me I come for the excellent inking and lighting and I stay for Lady Druj nipples. Well actually it may be the other way around...
