Dampyr #105 (2008) pages 38-39: Fangirl or spy? (NSFW)

Lady Druj has had enough of the inquisitive and oddly non-terrified Tess O'Day. She shows her demon face: “What I am… you'll find out the hard way!”

(Sinistrari/Sonderling speaks from inside his portrait.) “Wait, Druj. Not all artists are allowed to personally meet a student of their work after so many centuries of being forgotten. And it's commendable that the scholar in question is a splendid young woman.”

“Is that painting actually speaking? Ingenious! And now he's even turning his face. Crazy what you can do with computers these days.”

“Computers have nothing to do with this, Tess O'Day. I am Gerolamo Sinistrari himself. If you really know my life and work well, you know what people say about me.”

“That you sold your soul to the devil. Wow! Nice trick!”

(He steps out of the painting.) “But I'd like to be famous for my art, not for the black legend they spread about me. And yet, there's no serious, in-depth monograph on my paintings to date.”

(Druj) “Sonderling!”

“Why does your model call you that funny name?”

“I'm not his… By the powers that be! She witnessed my transformation, she saw you emerge from the painting… and she's not surprised by anything! I tell you, there's something strange about her.”

“I'm afraid you're right. I must suppress my vanity, Miss O'Day, and assume that you're not a scholar of my art, but a spy.”

“Can I call you Gerolamo? Well, dear Gerolamo, the purpose of my life is to create the definitive work on you. And if you tell me how you enter and exit your paintings, that might be the most fascinating chapter.”

“A question from a scholar or a spy?”

Sonderling and Lady Druj are totally flustered by Tess O'Day's failure to be frightened by their menacing appearance and behavior. Furthermore, Sinistrari/Sonderling really is a frustrated artist, and the prospect of an appreciative fan plays into his vanity, despite all evidence that Tess is a set-up of some sort.
