DescriptionThis piece was my one pick-up up at the latest Comic Art Live event. I've always liked Tim Drake as Robin, and this was probably just about the best period for the character, for multiple reasons. This page takes place during the "Zero Hour" event, where the timelines were all being up-ended. This causes Tim to (reluctantly) team-up with his predecessor as Robin, Dick Grayson. And while there isn't any of him on this page (save a silhouette in the background of the third panel), his presence is felt very much so by way of Tim's inner monologue, which shows the team-up is hardly a welcome situation. I love how writer Chuck Dixon handles this meeting, as Tim sees the adult version of Dick very much as an older brother, yet the dynamic is quite different, when Tim is dealing with a Dick Grayson younger than he is, but it still manages to maintain that "brotherly" vibe. You can clearly see how Tim feels almost inferior at being Robin around the original article. It's the same kind of friction you'd likely find between two highly competitive siblings. This is why I've always said that, though he didn't create him, Chuck Dixon is the writer who truly defined Tim Drake, as both Robin and a worthwhile character. Dixon really nails, not just the character of Tim Drake, but the mindset of how a teenager thinks, within his dialogue here. Someone else who really gets how to portray younger characters, is artist Tom Grummett. He does the one thing that seems so hard for many artists to do: He knows how to make kids and teens look like kids and teens, not just shrunken adults. His soft curves and minimal use of fine lines on the face, really accentuate the youthful aspect of Robin, which is a very key component to doing a teenage character. Ably inked by Ray Kryssing, the two are just as much a "dynamic duo" artistically, as Batman and Robin are in crime-fighting. Simply the perfect pair! This is yet another great page, by a "team supreme" with the character they are working on. And thus, another welcome addition to my ever growing comic art collection! No need for any "sibling jealousy" over that, but if you have it, I understand. Social/Sharing |

A nice Grummet page and great storytelling for the ever evolving dynamics between the wards/Robins of Bruce Wayne!

It's great just by the layout with the black running in a serpentine manner to show how time is winding around everything. The youthful look Grummet does is so unique for the time period where everyone had to be overly buff to show how cool they are.
