Description
"Medal of Honor: Lt. Frank Luke" by Norman Maurer. Cover date December 1971-January 1972.

Luke's best friend Joe Wehner looks like the actor Treat Williams, although that's probably a coincidence since he didn't start his career on Broadway until the year after Maurer drew the story.

At least ten other war and history comics from various publishers had stories about Luke's war exploits. Perhaps the best known is Harvey Kurtzman and George Evans's "Frank Luke!" in EC's Frontline Combat #13 (1953). Its tone is quite different from DC's.

An excited French soldier describes the pilot's impressive exploits to an unfazed French officer. He responds "Yes! The young ones! The reckless ones! They accomplish magnificent feats of skill and daring, but...malheureusement (unfortunately)...they die!...But come, my friend! The war is over! Paris is beautiful! It is time for us, the old ones, to live again! Garcon! Another deux cognac!"

Th Comics Code Authority missed this?  How can it be any more blatant when nuts are added to one end of the wiener??

The Frankfurter death machines were never great in battle but they were great for keeping troop morale high.

Just like the best athlete on any team who spend his time hot dogging and focusing on his personal stats rather than thinking as a team player, Luke's arrogance and selfishness will eventually get him killed!

No time to relish in their victory.

I feel like we are being setup to believe Lt. Luke is a loose canon, but he earned that Medal Of Honor somehow so I think he will get it together!
