Dampyr #69 (2006) pages 81-82: Road buddies

On the long drive to hide out in Vina del Mar, Kurjak and Teresa get to know one another and debate whether anyone is tailing them:

“And it's a fact that from Santiago to here, at least three different cars have always been behind us. Which doesn't mean much, I admit. This road has heavy traffic. Pull over to the right and slow down, Emil… All three have passed. Did you notice any blond guys at the wheel?

“In the Chrysler there was a woman, in the Ford van an old man with a gray beard, and in the Audi a young man with a cap pulled down on his head, and sunglasses.”

“Probably our man.”

“Why the devil did he show himself to little Diego? It would have been better for him to stay in the shadows all the time.”

“He's so sure of himself that he doesn't give a damn. And that makes him even more dangerous. Come on, get going, and I'll show you the way.”

“The place we're going to… is it that safe?”

“Safe enough for one night. It's a villa overlooking the sea, confiscated from a gang of drug dealers. Baldwyn only took care of the case indirectly. No one would connect it to him or me. The police sealed it, but it's not guarded, and there are no other houses around.’

“An ideal place. If it weren't for the guy in the Audi, the one transparently camouflaged…”

“We'll keep our eyes open, Emil. After the assault we endured last night, a cocky lone gunman doesn't pose a big problem for me anymore.” (Referring to the vampire attack earlier in this issue.)
