Death at Christmas always seems to come up. This though is the best kind. I love it! Happy Holidays to the Bowie Blue Family!
RIP Neil Gaiman's career is so Katie haha! Such a cool piece, I'm so used to seeing her tiny little convention sketches that an 11 x 14 from Katie is practically wall power! this will look great framed for all to enjoy. And I appreciate the sidebar about respect/communication from reps during a commission process. And while a 3 year wait is never ideal, it certainly helps when the collector themselves forgets it was ever a thing! congrats on the happy "surprise" :)
Oh, I won't ask for much this Christmas
It's not even Death for show
And I've just got to three years waiting
Put in sketch portfolio
I won't make a list excel it
To CAF art show for great picks
I won't even Gaiman hate you
Fear those comic readers cliques
'Cause I just want you here tonight
Drawing art to me so tight
What more Cam would do?
Bluie, all I wait for Christmas is you
You, KC
Katie Cook inspired by Jill Thompson perhaps. Or maybe I need to refresh my KC art style knowledge. Or both. Congrats!
I was just going to comment that Death herself looks like Jill!
Which I also mention in my description.
I am gonna admit something that most of us do.. if the description is super long, I either stop early or skip it all together. And also, I often comment BEFORE reading the description. In fact, in my posts I try (not always successfully) and not talk too much about the art itself and more about the collecting aspect, to avoid treading on comments.
It's about time commission collectors vent about the "realities" of the commissioning game here in the description of an art post! I'm glad this one ended satisfactorily, Mikail, it's a really cute one!
Sometimes you just have to vent into the void and get it out. Plus, in the future when I look back on this post, it will be a reminder of what was.
Wow! There's -amazing- warmth and obvious charm to the piece, but don't be fooled - Katie's packing some serious heat, too: these are BEAUTIFUL colors here, ML, not only in the choices (green and brown with their organic, living vibe, of course) but in their fine gradations all along the piece. Wow! And the textures and hatching in Death's hair? Showstopping. I love the subtle, cyclical, balance-to-all-things touch of the small, confetti-like skulls over both the white and black backgrounds surrounding Death, and Katie's withering wit locks down the bottom left corner of the piece. Wow!! Another terrific commission in your mighty collection, Mikail; a fine testament to waiting patiently (or putting it out of your mind completely :) ) and being rewarded by a cool artist who recognizes the importance of such traits. Congrats!
