Description

Reconstruction of the Adventure Comics #40 (July 1939) cover, executed by Chris Kohler from high-resolution scans of original printed copies, as no known production art survives. The piece was rendered in traditional black-and-white line art, with proportional fidelity and period-appropriate inking prioritized over surface imitation of degraded newsprint. Minor interpretive decisions (including dry-brush treatment of the gas effect) were made to preserve the visual logic of early Golden Age printing while presenting the image as legible original art rather than a facsimile of aged paper. This work was commissioned as part of a private study collection focused on historical composition and production-era constraints.

Creig Flessel was around in the 90's, but of course his recreations wouldn't look the same as it was 60 years before. This is a very faithful look to the printed book by Kohler!
