Description

The late cartoonist Morrie Turner was born in Oakland in Alameda County on December 11, 1923. My friend Lance sent portraits of authors Alex Haley and Alice Walker so I was inspired to feature Morrie’s work again. I read his comic strip Wee Pals while growing up. The March 23, 1970 daily features Martin Luther King, Jr. whose January birthday is a national holiday. I met Morrie at San Francisco Bay Area conventions and bought some books. Unfortunately the library has no Turner books at this time. The Illustrated Black History: Honoring the Iconic and the Unseen by George McCalman provides a short biography.
