As Marcus says, it's a superhero themes daily, which as a comic art collector has to be a bit of a bonus and the gag is fun as well!
Fun theme and solid punchline/gag! Great example of an early Garfield strip (less than a year in!) and in pristine condition to your point. Sweet pickup!
This is the era of Garfield I really enjoyed, before he became the villain of his own strip. Davis's cartooning is excellent here.

Wonderful example of early Garfield (although like you, I also had a preference for Heathcliff, but that may be the result of the catchy theme song from the Heathcliff television show).
