CLICK HERE FOR AUCTION LISTING!Created by writer Marv Wolfman and artist John Romita Sr. (1930-2023), Daredevil villain Bullseye first appeared within the pages of Daredevil #131, published by Marvel in March 1976. An assassin with preternatural marksmanship, Bullseye is capable of using almost anything as a deadly projectile weapon. Since his comic book debut, the twisted character has gone on to become one of Daredevil's most dangerous archnemeses, appearing in countless comic titles as well as making film and TV appearances. Offered here are the original pencil sketches Romita created for the character, showing two full body views - front and back - as well as two head portraits, showing the character's head as seen from the front and side (along with some roughs of the bullseye design on Bullseye's head and block-like pouch belt/gloves attachment). These pencil sketches are on three separate sheets of vellum, measuring between 3.25x7.25" and 5.75x8.25". The two full body images have been taped to a larger sheet of unlined paper and all three pieces have been attached to an 11x17" artboard. Romita has signed each piece of vellum and added handwritten note in black felt tip pen at bottom of sheet showing full body view of Bullseye from the back. Notation reads "First '3 View' Character Sketches Of Bullseye" and has "('70s)" date added as well. Art was published in John Romita ...And All The Jazz biography by TwoMorrows Publishing in 2007.
Regarding the character, Hake's Senior Consignment Manager Mike Bollinger had this to say, "When it comes to sheer ruthlessness and gleeful mayhem, you'd be hard-pressed to come up with a character better suited to wreak havoc on the Marvel Universe. To this day, seeing Bullseye show up in a comic, you know it's about to get personal. And bloody. Seeing him in his earliest incarnation as first sketched by his co-creator, Jazzy John Romita, this original art is akin to Bullseye's aim. It can't miss!"
The timing of this original art offering couldn't be at a more opportune time, as Bullseye celebrates his 50th Anniversary in March of this year. This art collectively represents the first Bullseye art Romita drew, making this a truly historic offering for both Daredevil fans, Romita aficionados and comic art collectors alike.
