The Powerpuff Girls arrived on Cartoon Network in 1998 and immediately rewrote the rules. Craig McCracken's creation drew on mid-century American graphic design and Jack Kirby's flat, kinetic energy, bold color, thick outlines, no fingers, enormous eyes, and an attitude that was funny and fierce and completely its own. The show never explained itself and never needed to. Three small girls, one city to protect, and a rogues gallery of villains who never quite learned their lesson. Mojo Jojo least of all.

That combination of graphic simplicity and explosive physical comedy made The Powerpuff Girls one of the most visually distinctive series Cartoon Network ever produced, and its influence on animation, design and popular culture has only grown since.

Original production cels from the early seasons carry a particular weight: the show used traditional hand-painted cel animation before transitioning to digital, and that first body of work is closed. What exists is what exists.
