Rhino - Riccardo Federici

Riccardo wasn’t on my initial commission list, but I couldn’t help but stop by his table whenever I walked by. It felt like I was looking at the work of a Renaissance painter. The anatomy was exquisite. And I loved that he did so much of his work with pencils alone. It gave everything a muted and emotional tone.

Despite not anticipating a commission, I think that Riccardo’s Rhino is my favorite of the con! It might as well be a photo! There’s the subtle ear under his mask. There’s boiling rage showing in his glower and sneer.

He had never drawn Rhino before, so I assumed he used some reference. I’m always intrigued when that leads artists to do a single horn.
