Avulias Aatu comic strip by Ola Fogelberg (1930)

Ola Fogelberg (1894-1952) a.k.a. Fogeli was one of the pioneering Finnish comic artists. In addition to several comic strips, he worked as a cartoonist, illustrator and commercial artist. His best known comic in Finland was "Pekka Puupää", created in 1925. After Fogelberg's passing in 1952, his daughter Toto Fogerberg-Kaila continued the comic strip until 1976, and there was also a series of 13 "Pekka Puupää" movies made between 1953 and 1960. Avulias Aatu ("Helpful Aatu") was his short-lived comic strip published between 1930 and 1932. The strip has suffered much damage (see additional image), but fortunately it still exists. Originally published in a Finnish weekly news magazine “Suomen Kuvalehti” #25, 1930 (cover date June 21, 1930). The text in the first panel says "The invention of the century. Free entrance" and "Patent #1 by Avulias Aatu", the second panel still advertises free entrance, and the text above the coin slot in the third panel says "Exit 5 Marks" (about 50 ¢ in current money).
