Description
Kamandi Issue 16 was published in April 1974. This issue introduced the concept of cortexin, a key element that explains how the world of Kamandi came to be. This page presents the history of cortexin while also paralleling those events with what Dr. Hanuman is experiencing at this point in the story.

The artwork includes a touch of Kirby Krakle in the bottom right panel, grounding the page firmly in Jack Kirby's signature visual language. As a comic art fan, it felt impossible to pass up a moment that captures both a foundational origin for the Kamandi world and the creative hand of the king of comics. For a collector of comic history, it stands as a perfect piece.

I have been unable to clearly identify the inker for this page, so I will list both inkers as listed on the back of the page. If anyone knows for sure who inked this page, please let me know as I would love to clear it up with 100% certainty.

How can I just let you walk away?
Just let you leave without Bruce traced
When I stand here taking Kirby strength
With you? Ooh, ooh

You're the Hanuman who really knew me at all

How can you just walk in page 13
When all ink can do is watch you leave?
'Cause we've shared the Royer and the pain
Cortexin shed the tears

You're Kamandi one who really knew me at all

So, take a look at me now
Well, there's just a Kirby page
And there's nothing left here to remind me
Just the fantasy of your place
Ooh, take a look Berry now
Well, there's just a Kirby page
And you coming back to me is against New Gods
And that's what I've got to face

Your first Kirby!  Congrats buddy!  Next to The Demon, Kamandi was my favorite Kirby book at DC.  Took me over ten years to get my first piece.  Glad you didn't have to wait that long.  Enjoy it and hopefully it's not your last.

Thanks Eric! Who knows if there is another in my future, but the short term outlook isn't looking so promising now that we picked up a new vehicle lol.

The King! A lovely page. The opening scene of Dr Hanuman with his head in his hands is pure Kirby drama - along with that wildly excited single-eyed gaze in the fifth panel. The decaying diary is depicted so well. Congrats! Comic.org has some notes on the inking, with Royer apparently having said that Berry helped out - mostly on backgrounds - but that Royer was the main inker. And it looks like Royer to me.

Looks like Dr. Michael Grant did partial inks in panel 4 ;)

Awesome grab and Mr. Roach's assessment is as good as gold!

Sometimes the GCD has some decent notes about multi-credits:

"Serpe colors suggested by letters page in Our Fighting Forces #159. Berry is credited as giving Royer "a helping hand." Per Royer, in Jack Kirby and Kompany Facebook group, "As far as I can remember, D. Bruce mostly inked some background stuff. This[referring specifically to pages 2-3]is primarily my inking AND all lettering."

That's the part I read. Not sure if there is a page by page notation in a Kirby Collector I never read, or something like that.  Guessing that's probably the best answer out there though.

Nice addition to the Saint collection. Dr. Grant's note is a reflection of Kirby working to craft a story with depth and connection.
