Description
X-men #33 (2026) Unpublished Cover by Tony Daniel. This is inks directly over pencils with gray tones on 11x17. Tony shared with me that this was the first version of the cover he drew, but he decided to redraw it simpler without the gray tones and changed a few details for the final cover such as the helmet. Tony was great to work with. I thought it was fantastic as is even though it was not the final piece used for the official cover.

The editor thought that this looks too finished for the colorist to tool around with it.  It presents really well in b&w.

Tony redrew it simpler with no gray tones and changed a few details which is the second picture attached. That became the final cover that will be released and is very similar to this piece. He said he just decided to redraw it in black and white. Not sure if that makes this a prelim cover drawing or just an unpublished version. Either way, I thought it was pretty cool.

Also, I agree with you that it's worthy to be a published cover, and I really like the gray tones on the OA.
