A typical year-end commentary, using the calendar to frame the war’s trajectory.

 “Get Hitler… signed, United Nations” is a carryover mission, not a new one. The “United Nations” here refers to the wartime Allied coalition (not yet the postwar institution formally created in 1945).The Western Allies are advancing, and Italy has effectively exited the Axis war. They are preparing for the final push into Germany. The line: “A large order, but I believe I can do it.” is important. Confidence (victory now seems achievable)… but also recognition of the challenge.
