"Fever Dream"

Early Nov. 1989

In Art history, the Crucifixion is one of the most frequently depicted themes and subjects. The same applies to the Pietà, the Creation of Adam or the Vitruvian Man.

The 9th Art has tributed that topics many times too. We all have in mind many iconic covers.

UXM #251 Cover by Silvestri and Green is one of them. But also The SSOC #5 by Boris Vallejo. I love both. They are absolutely ICONIC.

When I decided to ask for this commission I sent Ángel a picture of both covers. I only asked him to do it in his personal way and under his view.

Here it is the result. Ángel is a master using many techniques. I like very much the way he uses the airbrush.

To me this recreation has captured Wolverine crucifixion like if it would have happened in the Hyborean Age. It is a sort of tribute to those covers simultaneously.

We know Wolvie visited Conan in What if... Vol. 1 #16, but what would have happend if UXM. #251 happened in the Hyborean Age?

The art is fantastic... Those skulls in the foreground, at first, are lost to the power of the central figure... Then your eye is drawn to them and how they are rendered and the piece takes on another level. I really appreciate your thoughts in the description. Congratulations!

I think this is a WONDERFUL cover illustration. The drawing and coloring techniques are spectacular, even that fog that seems to be coming out of the skulls is just perfect. Congratulations!

Fantastic reimagination of the X-men Classic cover !

Like something from Creepy or Eerie with the moon and more skulls and vultures! Great description and process photos. Great idea to have him take photos, unless you were there! Amazing "recreation."
