Hot Summer is a 36" × 48" acrylic on canvas pop art painting completed in September 2020, based on an original WHOOPS! drawing illustrated by Armando Huerta in 2007.
Inspired by the legendary pin-up icon Bettie Page, this artwork was created as part of the WHOOPS! series, a collaborative project in which I developed the characters and concepts while Armando brought them to life through his illustrations. Selected drawings were then transformed into large-scale pop art paintings, with Armando receiving a commission from the sale of each completed work.
Although the original drawing was created in 2007, Hot Summer remained unrealized for more than a decade. I finally completed the painting in September 2020, four months after Armando's passing, bringing to life a collaboration we had planned years earlier. In that sense, it became both a fulfillment of an unfinished creative project and a tribute to the artistic partnership we shared.
This painting is hand-signed by Me on the reverse and is based directly on Armando's original 2007 drawing.
