DescriptionThis commission was the result of some reflecting I did after winning a Marvel Two in One 16 page on eBay (it is seen in the middle of this scan). I was feeling badly that it was Ernie Chan's work, but that he was getting nothing from this re-sale. The original price of $15 visible on the back meant that Ernie didn't even get rich from the sale the first time.In an effort to correct this injustice in some small way, I asked Ernie to re-create the page for me. Given that I owned the original and didn't need a duplicate, I asked for a recreation with a big twist: a re-INTERPRETATION of the entire page... Kind of a "How would Ernie Chan have drawn/approached this page, had he drawn it in 2007 and not 1977?" situation. Ernie took the entire page and re-did it from a modern perspective. I asked him to leave off all the word balloons, given that the page that didn't need words for the viewer to figure out what was going on. The end result is terrific. You can spend lots of time comparing the 'before' against the 'after' and debating which approach works better. For those unfamiliar with the issue (that being most people), the characters in this scene are the ever-lovin' Thing, Skull the Slayer, and three supporting characters from the Skull the Slayer book: Dr. Raymond Corey, Ann Reynolds and Jeff Turner. Rest in peace, Ernie. Social/Sharing |

Speaking of art directing, :) this is just great. I love how Ernie drew the Thing in a slightly more contemporary way. He draws women better that back in the day. What an amazing idea and actualization!

Yet another unique way to continue on with your excellent theme...I really like how Ernie re-interpreted his panels and his skills have only improved...

That was a pretty novel idea with a very interesting result. What did Ernie think?
