Description

This sketchcard commission by Ron Wilson was completed in February 2007. Arranged with Ron's super rep Jeff Jaworski a month or so prior.

Marvel Two in One 51, originally drawn by Frank Miller and Bob McLeod, is one of my favorite single books in the MTIO run and one of my favorite 'done in one' comic books of all time. That said, MTIO 51 presents a few problems when it comes to getting a commission. It features a cast of thousands (pricey!), it has a plot that is hard to summarize in a single pinup-style scene (confusing!), and it has a generic military villain who doesn't exactly set one's heart racing (forgettable!)

The solution, I decided, was to focus on the 'super hero poker game' that starts and closes the MTIO 51 storyline. When all was said and done, I had prolific bronze age Marvel artist Ron Wilson draw up 5 sketchcards showing the lead characters of the book (sketchcards... poker cards... you see the vague connection there, I hope). The five cards by Ron, depicting the Thing, the Beast, Nick Fury, Wonder Man and Ms Marvel, are all on display in my CAF gallery.

Update (2007 07): This card is now inked by Joe Rubinstein.
