Description
John Sink: First Love Illustrated #33 Complete 5-page Story "My Heart Was a Runaway" Original Art (Harvey, 1956). The Comics Code Authority came in and required wholesale changes to this melodrama. Except for EC, Harvey was hit harder than any other company by the Code. Even so, John Sink's storytelling remains quite impressive. The image area of each page measures 12" x 18", and aside from the Code-mandated corrections, the art is Good condition overall.
Were Manny Stallman or Joe Simon involved in the Code corrections?
If you look very closely, the certificate on the wall is signed by John Sink.

Provenance: Heritage auction 2006

As you say, the Sink pencils are undeniable. I see the hand of Manny Stallman is also at work here. I believe panel 4 on page 4 clearly shows the influence of Stallman. Joe Simon is also represented here in the code-corrections. The man's head in panel 4 of page 3 is pure Simon. I must confess that as much as I love Manny Stallman's art, I don't think he and Sink make a good match. Still, their combined artwork produces a very interesting "atmosphere". I'd really like to see a copy of the published pre-Code story, to compare and contrast with this censored version!
