The Thing by Rich Faber

On 4/6/03, the Capital Associates Comic Book, Toy, & CCG Show was held in Tyson's Corner, VA and featured inker Rich Faber as a guest. Rich had inked a number of X-Men stories, and since I had received a Wolverine by Jae Lee and a Howard the Duck by Jose Villarubia (and loved watching the process in action), I decided to get a sketchbook and start collecting them in one place. Randy Lander, who reviews comics and had posted some of his convention sketches from the recent San Diego Comic-Con gave me some pointers as to what kinds of books he had and what he liked. When I asked Rich to start the book, he was daunted by being the first sketch, especially since he's not a penciller by trade! He makes others' work look good! I convinced him that whatever he did was going to be miles above what I could do, and John Gallagher, who was also a guest there and sitting next to Rich, coached/coerced him into doing this Thing sketch. I think Rich was a little disappointed with how it came out, but I enjoyed it a lot! Rich is a really nice guy.
