McFarlane did do a poster very similar to this, not "the king is dead" and with a better spidey head, less oval; but where oh where was this published?? I've never seen it before. Gorgeous, thanks for sharing!~:)

This is indeed the same piece of art that was used for the poster - apparently it actually predates Todd’s run on ASM (published in this form someplace or another) and do the later success of Amazing, (or at least due to the popularity of the first several issues) Marvel reprised this image, adding a few tweaks here and there, and produced one of the more memorable Spidey posters of my youth - I assume I'm not the only one around these parts who feels that way. Just a gorgeous piece!!!

Hey Jason, I'm thinking you must be mistaken... I don't see how this art predated Todd's run on ASM when it says in the first word bubble in the art "And then came Amazing Spider-Man #300..." That at least indicates it wasn't published in this form until after issue 300, regardless, it's a sweet piece!~:)

I stand corrected. The poster however was still produced from this very piece - Todd obviously used stats to cover the text and the head is likely to have been changed as well... still a phenomenal piece!!!
