Description

This is a great photo of Beanie Walker (L) and George Herriman (R), shot on the set of the Hal Roach Studios at MGM, where Herriman kept a drawing table. The caption on the reverse states:

H.M. "Beanie" Walker, Vice-President and dialogue expert for Hal Roach Studios with George Herriman, father of "Krazy Kat". Herriman conceives the daily doings of "Krazy Kat" in "Beanie" Walker's office where he keeps his drawing board. Walker was formally sports editor of the Los Angeles Examiner.

Original photographs of Herriman are quite scarce and I'm very happy to have acquired my third one.

I wonder what Herriman is looking at in the shot? Perhaps a pretty young thing strolling by on the catwalk above the stage, or maybe a cloud crossing over the sun that bears a strange resembleance to Krazy Kat, or... the ever rising values of a nice Herriman strip at the start of the 21st Century. Kudos on a fine fine Herriman acquisition. With your love for work by this master - I'm sure this piece already has a fond place in your heart!
