Description
I bought this piece on a lark. Tom over at Fanfare SE was selling it on ebay in late 2002, and I thought it looked like a cool page, but wasn't dying to have it, figured yay if I win it, oh well if I don't. I didn't think I stood a chance of winning it, so imagine my surprise when I did. This is one of those cases where "the scan doesn't do the original justice" cliche really is true - the original scan that was used for the sale really didn't convey how beautiful and delicate the brushwork is on this baby. I shake my head in awe every time I look at it. Truly a beautiful piece of work. I'm not sure who the inker is - I can barely make out a "J Rodriguez" as a signature, but I can't think of who that might be. I feel *so* lucky to have this gorgeous piece. Tom is fairly certain this was published, probably in one of the Malibu books right after they were bought by Marvel, but no idea what it may have been. Pencil/ink on 11x17 Bristol.

I asked Scott what this piece was drawn for, and he sez: "To answer your question this piece did see print as part of a battle royale special depicting Malibu characters vs Marvel characters in "fight to the death" scenarios. This was about the time when Marvel acquired Malibu in a bloodless coup. Everyone else had shots of characters beating the crap out of each other, but when I got the assignment I thought, 'What if Choice and Black Widow met and instead of fighting decided to get some coffee and talk instead.' Thus the drawing. It was the only one that didn't end in someone kicking the other's ass."

Great piece, what a find! Gotta love those skintight outfits! "Elvgren hotel" - too funny!

Roland, The inker's name is 'Jasen' Rodiguez. I literally drool over the result of his collaboration with Scott Benefiel on Dark Horse Comics' Ghost (vol. 1, issues 6 & 7), as this pretty cool piece of yours attest...
