The Infinity Crisis

Long before DC came up with the Infinite Crisis, I had this piece commissioned years ago which I called the Infinity Crisis. I used the cover of issue 2 of the INFINITY GAUNTLET limited series as the template for this piece, penciled and inked by Mark D. Bright (of IRON MAN and QUANTUM AND WOODY fame).

The piece features the Black Panther, Steel, Mr. Terrific (seated) and Monica Rambeau (then known as Captain Marvel or maybe Photon) in a War Room sending a call out to superheroes to gather them for an impending threat. Mark had the neat idea to make it look as if the faces on the monitor screens were engaged in the conversation that's taking place.

I believe this piece is the most comprehensive collection of Black/African-American heroes ever done -- at least until you see the next piece I've got coming.;-)

At the time I had this piece done -- sometime around 2001 or so if memory serves -- some of the characters I would've liked to have included weren't "active." John Stewart was still in a wheelchair. The new Crimson Avenger was introduced shortly after I'd commissioned the piece. Bill Foster (aka Goliath) was retired.
