Description
I darkened this page in Photoshop to bring out the pencil work, some of which had been partially erased (anyone know of a way to restore?). De Lay did art for WEIRD TALES in the 1930s and a small amout of comic book art in the 1940s. This story was evidently commissioned by Funnies Inc, (Continuity O.K.ed on the back by Bill Everett and dated December 1940) and originally titled VULK. The story line was rewritten and appeared as THE SUB-EARTH MAN in MYSTIC COMICS #5 in March 1941. I do have Black & White proofs of the published story which I could post if people don't mind that it's not original art.

Outstanding! I'd love to see the proofs of the published story for comparison. Thanks for posting.
