Cassell, Dewey
Like a lot of people, I collect original comic art from titles and artists that were favorites of mine when I was a kid. I have a particular predilection toward the generation of artists that includes George Tuska, Marie Severin, Nick Cardy, Jim Mooney, Gene Colan, Win Mortimer, Don Heck, Ramona Fradon, Larry Lieber, Sam Glanzman, Joe Giella, and Herb Trimpe. (See my Want List for art I would like to find.)
I am also an author. I have written over 50 articles for magazines such as BACK ISSUE, Alter Ego, Rough Stuff, and Jack Kirby Collector. I have also written/co-written five books, including "The Art of George Tuska," "Marie Severin: The Mirthful Mistress of Comics" (nominated for a 2013 Eisner Award), "The Incredible Herb Trimpe," and "Mike Grell: Life Is Drawing Without An Eraser" (nominated for a 2019 Eisner Award.) A book about Marshall Rogers, "Brightest Days and Darkest Knights" was released in July 2025. I am currently working on a book collecting Marie Severin's cartoons.
I also wrote the introductions to volume 5 of the IRON MAN Marvel Masterworks and volume 11 of the HULK Marvel Masterworks. In addition, I contributed to the 2011 book "Genius, Isolated: The Life and Art of Alex Toth" and I wrote 10 entries for the 2014 encyclopedia "Comics through Time: A History of Icons, Idols, and Ideas." I also contributed to episode 2 "Higher, Further, Faster" of the Disney+ docuseries Marvel 616. More recently, I contributed to the book, "Super Visible: The Story of the Women of Marvel Comics." I am a member of the Authors Guild and Triangle Association of Freelancers, and was a member of the Comic and Fantasy Art Amateur Press Association for ten years.
