Description

Cal Schenkel did the art for Zappa's album Tinsel Town Rebellion in 1981. In '87 he did this loving tribute to that album. (from the collection of Karl E.Gray III)

Cal Schenkel was Zappa's cover artist/art director from 1967 on, starting with the 2nd album "Absolutely Free".

In the mid 80's Schenkel made all new unique original artworks by taking an old album sleeve, tearing it open, mounting it to a masonite board/frame and then going at it with hot glue, silk screened art, paints, pens, markers, sheets of acrylic, and the occasional chain saw. This is one of those unique pieces. In my case he added things I sent him from around my house like, game board pieces, foreign coins, a drum stick head and the foot off an old G.I. Joe
