I was very excited to meet Jon J Muth at this signing. He first did a reading and painting demonstration for the kids, where he did some amazing sketches with caligraphy brushes. He was kind enough to do a quick sketch for me of Stillwater, the panda from his children's books
Zen Shorts and
Zen Ties.
I asked if he gets more respect for his comic work or his children's illustration. He replied that it depends on the audience but there was an odd dichotomy when he first started illustrating children's books since half the attendence would be children and their parents and the rest would be tattoo-covered goth kids with their copies of Sandman.
