Jim Silke is the creator/writer/artist of the graphic novel
Rascals in Paradise, writer/artist of
Bettie Page: Queen of the Nile and Bettie Page Comics, and writer/illustrator of the books
Bettie Page: Queen of Hearts and
Pin-Up: the Illegitimate Art. Steve Morger at
Big Wow Art sells Jim's artwork and the
Jim Silke Sketchbook. Further back in his life, Jim was an art director for a record company after his military service. He wrote movies in the 1970's and 1980's. I also discovered Jim produced two 50th anniversary Warner Bros. record album box sets which I'd owned since my college days around 1980.
I first met Jim in Oakland at WonderCon in 1996. I bought two of his least expensive pieces on the first day and came back on Sunday to buy this drawing. A couple years later, Jim remembered I owned this one and gave me the art school catalog where it was printed.
Jim was on a pin-up panel at WonderCon with Dave Stevens, Frank Cho, Terry Dodson, Russ Heath, and Michael Bair. My notes on this event are in my CAF
Dave Stevens Rocketeer page.
