Stargirl (Carla Speed McNeil-2006 SDCC)

For years I'd walked past Carla's booth at SDCC, ignoring Finder. Shame on me! Finder's one of my 3 favorite books ever! By the time SDCC 2006 rolled around, I'd come to my senses & was totally digging Carla's work, so I thought I'd come around & see if she was available to sketch. She was, and it occurred to me that I didn't have a sketch of Courtney, Jack's immediate successor, in the book. Zoinks! Carla was super accommodating, and we had a pleasant chat about her "world-building" process and how some of her upbringing in Louisiana influenced aspects of Finder.
