Wim Swerts
(b. 19/4/1966, Belgium)
Wim Swerts is a Flemisch comics artist, known for his comics versions of Belgian TV shows and stars, which he makes together with Luc van Asten. Swerts was born in Tongeren and studied arts in Hasselt from 1984 to 1990. He began his career doing merchandise illustration for the popular TV show 'Samson en Gert' in 1990. Shortly afterwards, he made a series of comics based on the show, together with Jean-Pol.
In 1997, he set up Lighthouse Productions with fellow artist Luc van Asten (Vanas), who already did the coloring of Swerts' earlier work. Swerts and Vanas cooperated on several TV related products, like new 'Samson & Gert' stories and reading books with 'Kabouter Plop' and 'Piet Piraat'. In 2000, Swerts and Vanas began the newspaper comic 'Ambiorix' for Het Belang van Limburg, together with scripwriter Hec Leemans. The team continued to work with Leemans on a comics version of the TV show 'W817', and the comics adventures of tennis player Kim Clijsters, called 'Kim'. In 2006, they began a new series with writer Tom Bouden, 'En Daarmee Basta!', also based on a show by Ketnet.
