Description
Some time ago, I bought a handful of photostats of Sheldon Mayer's artwork. One of them was a birthday card for his mother - Jennie - which you can see in the "Additional Images" section below. It features his most famous creations, Sugar & Spike.

This piece appears to be a duplicate of the last panel of that piece. If it wasn't for the lack of shading and the size, I'd say this was the original of that piece.

I picked it up at a ComicLink auction. The labeling on the back says that it was framed in either Albany or Troy. Since it is framed, I can't examine the paper for any clues, but it's really cute.

Let me know if you have any thoughts about it origin.

As always comments are more than welcome.

PS. I thought I'd mention how I got the full cartoon seen in the "Additional Images" section.

I won a 99 cent eBay auction run by Heritage Auctions; well, the auction was 0.99, but the shipping brought it to nearly $10. It was for a set of photocopies from the files of Sheldon Mayer. I must have it bad to spend $10 on a set of photocopies. Sheesh...

Anyway, several of the pieces fit together to make a long birthday card to Sheldon Mayer's mom. Using Comic Life, GraphicConverter, an HP All-in-One, and my wife's iMac, I reassembled the original comic from those scans. So, while it is not original art, the original format, or even a real comic page, I did have some fun using these tools and the strip is nice.
