Description

�� Shigeru Mizuki is the cartoonist of the supernatural manga Kitaro which was adapted to animation as Ge Ge Ge no Kitaro. He is a veteran of World War II and lost his left arm in a bombing raid. UPDATE: Some 20 years after getting this sketch by standing in line at a con, I've bought and read Drawn & Quarterly's Kitaro English-language translation. Although not usually a reader of monster stories, I thoroughly enjoyed the adventures of the Japanese yokai who appears to be a boy. As some Japanese monster acts out his evil plans, Kitaro of the graveyard comes to the rescue in many unusual ways. I've also read Mizuki's autobiographical Onward Towards Our Noble Deaths which depicts the desperate plight of Japanese soldiers whose officers will not change their official report that the men died in battle. Their new orders are to go and fight until they die.
