Description

White Wolf's "Changeling: The Dreaming" books were part of its "World of Darkness" RPG. Instead of vampires, though, player characters were changelings or faerie souls born into human bodies. The fae had been forced into this subterfuge in order to protect themselves as magic vanished from the world. This piece was a full-page illustration before the Introduction of the book. The facing page had a quotation from T.S. Eliot: "The river is within us, the sea is all about us;/ The sea is the land's edge also, the granite/ Into which it reaches, the beaches where it tosses/ Its hints of earlier and other creation. " I saw this originally in an interview with Michael Gaydos and was charmed by the surreal image of a dreaming fae surrounded by fish and babies. (Bought from Michael Gaydos, 2009/05)
