"Keepers of the Word" was published a year after "Masters of the State" and described the learned vampire clans of Brujah. Toreador, and Tremere. This illustration comes from the section on House Tremere titled "The Usurper's Seed." The Tremere had been human magicians who, in their search for immortality, took the vampiric "gift" from captive Tzimisce and then expanded into their Eastern European lands. As a result, the other vampire clans call Tremere the House of the Usurper. During the time covered by "Keepers", the Tremere still perceived themselves as mages and seekers of knowledge first and then vampires second, (Bought from Michael Gaydos, 2009/05)
