DescriptionZara of the Jungle - Mystic Comics #2 – 3 (April 1940 – June 1940)At first glance this buxom, scantily clad, raven haired beauty seemed typical of the jungle queens common to comics of the 1940's. The twist was that as an infant Zara had been taken from civilization by her father, and been specifically raised to fight crime and cruelty in the African jungle. Unfortunately, concept can only take you so far if the execution is average. In her first adventure, Zara meets Captain Jeff Graves, the handsome, and typically patronizing, white territorial commissioner and helps him end a war between two native tribes that is being engineered by a scheming white man who goes by the name of "Bwana Gombo." In the next issue, the pair shut down a slaving operation that had been using the natives' superstitious fears as cover for their operations. Social/Sharing |
