Description
1927 Flynn's Detective cover for one of the later stories about the Bloody Williamson gang war in southern Illinois
This is painted over a staged photograph - a technique Hiller used in all of his Flynn's covers.
Oddly the man on the cover bears little resemblance to Charlie Birger the criminal who actually was allowed for a while to keep his submachine gun in his cell!
