Description- Nato il 30 luglio 1921 a Chicago, Illinois. Morto il 6 maggio 2011, Manhattan, New York. Da giovane, mentre faceva le consegne lungo il percorso dei giornali, Scott si fermava a leggere i giornali divertenti. Decise: "Posso farcela". Ha iniziato a disegnare e dipingere e ha continuato a studiare presso la Art Students League. Nel 1947, sotto il G.I. Bill, Scott si iscrisse alla prima classe della Cartoonists and Illustrators School (ribattezzata SVA nel 1956) e studiò cartooning con Jack Markow. Nel 1949, utilizzando le firme “Scott”, “ST” e “Taber”, iniziò a vendere vignette e spot a tutte le principali pubblicazioni: Ladies Home Journal, Good Housekeeping, The Saturday Evening Post, Look, The Wall Street Journal. , Saturday Review, Medical Economics, Gags, Hello Buddies, ecc. As a youngster, while making deliveries on his newspaper route, Scott stopped and read the funny papers. He decided, “I can do this.” With instruction from his commercial artist father, he started to draw and paint, and went on the study at The Art Students League. In 1947, under the G.I. Bill, Scott enrolled in the first class of The Cartoonists and Illustrators School (renamed SVA in 1956), and studied cartooning with Jack Markow. In 1949, using the signatures “Scott,” “ST,” and “Taber,” he started to sell cartoons and spots to all the major publications: Ladies Home Journal, Good Housekeeping, The Saturday Evening Post, Look, The Wall Street Journal, Saturday Review, Medical Economics, Gags, Hello Buddies, etc.. He moved to Germany for seven years and did cartoons for European markets. One of his European signatures was “Poubelle.” When he returned to the States he used the signature “Val.” From May 11, 1968 – January 1, 1979, he drew well over a hundred spots for The New Yorker.
