Welcome to the "Question" issue of Page 23. Riddle me this, what was the first page of original comic art I bought? Why this one, of course! I actually bought it twice, since in my early days of collecting, I had a habit of trading pages as soon as I got them. So fire up the flux capacitor on the DeLorean and get ready to go back to the 80's. First job. First place. First bills. First piece of comic art. This pages from the Question #1 was the first piece of comic art I ever purchased. I seem to recall I paid $100.00 for it. Don't know if the experience is the same for everyone, but with me, the thought process was with my first few real paychecks "This is the amount of money I have to spend." (RENT!?!...I PAID THAT LAST MONTH!!). This was back in the day when the only way to find art was the hard way, in the Comic's Shop Journal or other comic rags. I bought this page from Graphic Collectibles way back in 1988. This is still one of the "The Big Boys" in the original comic art area. When purchasing art, you may want to wait for one on the bi-annual 10% comic art sales, usually in June/July before the big San Diego Comic Con. Most comic art sites seem to have sales at the end of the year as well. A secret I have learned though, if you spend enough money on art here, you can usually negotiate your own 10% sale anytime you like. If you REALLY spend a lot of money, you may be able to get a 15% discount on your art. I once even drove the poor owner crazy and he had a weekend 20% sale. I consider this to still be one of the "Big Boys"due to the presents of new art regularly from current comic issues. If you are looking for any new (or old) art from Jim Starlin, Ed McGuinness, or Howard Chalkin, this is the place.
