Description

I won this original sketch of Shan Yu, the villain from the Disney film Mulan, from the Help the Hodges auction. Their website had this to say in the description:

In 1998, Disney released their beautiful animated musical film about one of China's most beloved folk heroes, Mulan. The only child of her parents, Mulan disguised herself as a man and went off to war to help defend China from the raiding Huns. What made that threat so intense in the film was due to the shear ruthlessness and seething evil that Pres Romanillos gave the villain, Shan-Yu.

Pres has been working in animation since 1989's The Little Mermaid. He worked as an animator for Disney for many years on films such as Aladdin and Pocahontas, eventually earning his spot as the Supervising Animator of Shan-Yu for Mulan. Later, he went to work for Dreamworks Animation on Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron, Sinbad, Shrek 2, and Madagascar. He continues to work his magic at Dreamworks, but was happy to revisit his villain from Mulan specifically to Help the Hodges!

edit: Sadly Pres Romanillos lost his battle with leukemia on July 17, 2010. Condolences to his family and friends.
