DescriptionMy grandfather was born in Russia, and, although he came over at an early age, his English was always a bit of a combination of Yiddish, English, and whatever they spoke in the shops on Touhy Ave. He was in his 70's when I first met him, but I'll always remember going over to his apartment, and finding a stack of comics! Now, I assumed that he read comics to help his English, but who knows?Maybe he just liked the stories. Anyway, he read almost solely Western and War books. I remember reading this issue in his apartment, and seeing a chance to pounce in the auction, I was able to pick up this baby! It seems like Joe Kubert is selling a group of pieces in every Heritage auction, and personally, I couldn't be more thrilled. Social/Sharing |

I think this cover is absolutely phenomenal. It tells a story at the ultimate moment of tension. The execution is that of a master. Keeper. No doubt about it.

What Scott Williams said. Plus, the design elements are incredible – the light shining down from the manhole cover, the arched ceiling, the columns of soldiers on either side and the Unknown Soldier taking up the space just below the center. Wow!

I'm not the biggest Kubert fan, but there is simply no denying that from conception, to layout, to execution, this is one of his best covers. This art is so fantastic that it needs no color. Exquisite. Congratulations!
