DescriptionMy final rambling for this week is a review of the just finished Siege, plus a few movies while I am reviewing. My opinion of Siege was, it was predictable. About five years ago, we began the "deconstruction" of the Marvel Universe with the death of Thor, the death of Captain America, the Civil Wars and Tony Stark being a SOB, and the reveal of Peter Parker as Spider-man. Now, Thor is back, Captain America is back from his time travel trip with Sherman and Mr. Peabody, Iron Man has been redeemed 'cuz he wiped himself clean, and the Devil took Spider-man. Sounds like a script for a "Brightest Day", I mean "Heroic Age" to me! This page features the origin of The Sentry in Kirbyesqe style, the Superman of the Marvel Universe who just saw his end in Siege #4. The "Golden Guardian of Good with the Power of a Million Exploding Suns" was introduced way back in 2000 in Wizard magazine as a long lost Marvel hero. Supposedly created in 1961 by artist Artie Rosen and famed Marvelite Stan Lee , the Sentry pre-dated the introduction of the Fantastic Four in 1962. It was later revealed to be a big April Fools hoax (or as it is sometimes called, a lie), perpetrated by Wizard Magazine and Stan Lee (this is another fine mess you've gotten us into, Stan Lee) to promote the character. Wizard Magazine even went so far as to publish the death of non-existent artist Artie Rosen. The character had been resurrected again as a member of the New Avengers . However, it appeared Marvel never got a handle on how to use the character, so he became a cannon foddered red shirt in order to rebuild the Marvel Universe. On movie reviews, Iron Man 2, Robert Downey Jr. does a good FedEx John Moschitta Jr. impression (I'll let the curious look that up). The Nightmare on Elm Street remake was forgettable. And finally after almost over a year, I was able to see "Watchmen: The Directors Cut." The director’s cut was actually a much better movie than the screened version, and despite what I have said previously, in the complete version, the actors appear to be well suited for their roles. The entire sequence where we learn the creation of Doctor Manhattan also seemed to be more cohesive. All in all, while it had most of the same scenes, the theatrical release butchered the movie.Social/Sharing |
