Description
....so, I'm living overseas in 1977, when this Print was published by GbP. I receiived my notice from GbP months late, because of the slow international mail. I purchased my print, and received in the mail, the large poster/print signed by Barry. I never even knew there was a Photoprint of 100 S/N copies available, until almost 30 years later, and was shocked when I found out there had been one! So, I'm on the lookout for a S/N Copy of "The Fate Sowing the Stars" Photoprint, and 3 years ago, this comes across my "radar"; not one of the S/N Photoprints, but an "Artist's Proof" of the Photoprint! I bought it, and pay a good bit for it, and was happy to have it.
I contacted Alex Bialy, Barry's able assistant, and asked him how many of the AP's of the Photoprint had been produced. Another poster on this site said he learned years ago from Linda Lessman that something like ~ 10 or so of these "AP's" of "Fate Sowing the Stars" had been produced.
Alex told me that the records for the GbP from 30+ years ago, are a bit difficult to access these days, but to the best of his ability, it may have been in the 15 - 25 range that were actually produced.
Regardless, it was a small number. As the other poster said, in the 33 years since this print was published, I've never even seen one of the 100 S/N Photoprints for Sale, and then I'm lucky enough to get an "AP" of it, that I didn't even know existed, of the Photoprint that I missed 33 years ago.
My "AP" was matted like this, I think by Barry/GbP, because the matting is obviously the same as the gold border that is on Poster/Print Edition.
In white ink, in the lower right-hand side, it says "Barry Windsor Smith" & "AP"
I just checked out Greg Ikuta's copy of this same item, on this site. His is presented differently! It is not matted in the Gold Matteboard, and it is signed in black marker below the image on the lower right-hand side, "Barry Windsor-Smith 20 July 1977 Artist's Proof"
