Description

When I first began reading comic books as a kid in the mid-1980s, the shadow of "Days of Future Past" was looming freshly over the Marvel universe. Since I was Jewish, the specter of a dystopian future where mutants were herded into concentration camps was an especially nightmarish image. So I found the Sentinels to be very scary indeed.

Twenty years later, Juan Doe did the covers for the miniseries X-Men: The 198. Issue two had the image of a sinister, Orwellian poster with the faces of the Sentinels, with the words "They're Watching You" emblazoned upon it. This really stuck in my mind. That was why I asked Juan to do a sketch of one of the towering mutant-hunting robots in my supervillains sketchbook. He drew a fantastic, detailed portrait of those malignant machines.
